17 November — National Revival Day of Azerbaijan


On November, 17th in Azerbaijan it is celebrating as a Day of National revival. Twenty years ago, on this day on Lenin's square in Baku (nowadays it is called as Freedom square) started the first termless mass meetings of the protest against a policy of the central authorities of the former Union concerning events in Nagorno-Karabakh have begun and the first appeals to an exit of Azerbaijan from structure of the USSR have sounded. In some days the area has been surrounded by the forces of the internal troops which have been pulled together in Baku from different republics USSR which in the night from 3 for December, 4th, having applied force, have superseded holding a meeting with the area, many of them were then are arrested. These events are considered as the beginning of national-liberation movement in Azerbaijan.
