4th - 8th August we organized Summer camp in Rosia Montana.
As we planned to make one week summer camp, we decided to make co-operation with other volunteers from Sintea Mare and Suplacu de Barcau to exchange the ideas and experiences. Now than summer camp is over I can say that it was really good decision as we supplemented each other very well.
Volunteers from another communities got some new ideas which games they can organize on their community and we got very good idea how to make stick bread on the bonfire what Rosia Montana's children very loved. One week later volunteers from Sintea Mare organized the 'olympic games' for their community' children which was inspired from summer camp in Rosia Montana.
For me it was new experience to work with children so intensely and a long time. Children were very active and full of energy that I felt very tired every end of the day, but at the same time very happy because than I was working with children I felt myself also like a child. I was painting, making the puppet, singing, running, playing the sport games what I had not done for so long time.
First day we started with different name games to break the ice between us and children. After name games we splited children into 3 groups, because we had over than 30 children from Rosia Montana and Gypsies place what is between Abrud and Rosia Montana. We had three workshop at the same time: painting, handicraft and sport. For me it was real fun to play football and basketball with them and that how I got to more closer with children.
After workshops and lunch time we tought the English, German and Gypsies language for children. We tried to do it in interesting way with songs, games, drawings and colors and I believe we achieved it, children were learning very quickly colors, body parts, numbers. It seemed that they really liked this.
Second day we started with other games, for instance freeze game, bang-bang game, and hula-hula. Also we had a different kind of workshops: drawing, fluff and fold and music workshop. In music corner Daniela was playing the guitar and children were singing. In this workshop we could see how much we can affect children. For instance one boy was all the time naughty and was teasing others but he started to like so much guitar and after this music workshop he was around Daniela all the time. This way we had a power over him, if he was good he was allowed to play with guitar. I think Daniela got the admirer for herself through this workshop :)
Third day we had a excursion in Rosia Montana and we were visiting the underground tunnel and after that we made bonfire with children near the lake. It was very nice view from there to the lake. Everybody was cooking the stick bread and were enjoyed the time there.
Fourth day children were making the puppets with socks. We had a art workshop and we organized sport games. But children's favorite game were chair game. They were so excited about that. The end of the point there is only one chair and 2 persons. They are walking around chair and than the music stops persons have to sit down. Who can make it is the winner.
Last day we arranged competitions for children. Eating competition, who can eat the quickest way, who is the fastest who gets the apple from the water without using the hands, which team can carry more water to other side, etc.
Romanian children really like competitions. Every end of the game there have to be have winner, other way its not good game:D
We had great time together and what most important we made Rosia Montana children very happy with this one week:)
Nearby we are planning new camp in Abrud or in some village near the Abrud. Everybody can joy with us. You can be sure you gonna have good time with us!
